Gerard Fitzpatrick is a founding partner of the Fitzpatrick & Company and brings decades of experience as a professional accountant and trusted advisor. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with clients across diverse industries, providing strategic business consulting and advising on operational, financial, and taxation matters. He is frequently engaged for due diligence assignments and complex advisory engagements.
Gerard received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1975 after completing his Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Prince Edward Island in 1973. In recognition of his significant contributions to the profession, he was awarded the prestigious Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) designation in 2004.
A recognized tax specialist, Gerard has completed the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ In-Depth Tax Course and is widely respected for his expertise in tax planning and compliance. He is also a Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), further underscoring his depth of knowledge in trust, estate, and succession planning.
Michael Fitpatrick is a founding partner of Fitzpatrick & Company and CEO of the firm. Under his leadership, Fitzpatrick & Company has grown into a trusted local firm known for its integrity, responsiveness, and dedication to the community.
Michael received his CA designation in 2004 and completed the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ indepth Tax Course in 2012. With public accounting experience in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Alberta, Michael has guided businesses, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs through complex financial, operational, and regulatory challenges. He is known for his ability to translate technical requirements into actionable insights and helping clients strengthen performance, manage risk, and plan confidently for the future.
Michael has received several accolades throughout his career. In 2013 Michael was awarded The Early Achievement Award for remarkable accomplishments early in his career by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Prince Edward Island (ICAPEI). In 2015, Michael was also recognized by 21 Inc. as an emerging leader in Atlantic Canada, and in 2025 he was appointed as the Chair of CPA Canada’s Board of Examiners, making history as the First Islander to hold this position.

Robert Horne joined Fitzpatrick and Company in June 2010 and has advanced through several leadership roles, including Manager, Senior Manager, and Principal, before ultimately becoming Partner in October 2021. As the primary partner overseeing assurance and audit engagements, Robert supports a diverse portfolio of private and not-for-profit organizations. He brings extensive experience in managing non-routine engagements, identifying issues, and delivering practical solutions. His background also includes valuable expertise in taxation, advisory services, and business acquisitions.
Robert graduated from University of Prince Edward Island with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2009. He successfully completed the CA Uniform Final Evaluation to earn his Chartered Accountant designation in 2013, and continued his education through completing the Income Tax for the General Practitioner course offered by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2017, increasing his expertise in tax matters.
Beyond his professional work, Robert is an active community leader. He currently serves as President of Special Olympics PEI, having previously held the roles of Vice-President and Treasurer since first becoming involved with the organization in 2015. Robert has also contributed to advisory boards for Holland College and has volunteered his time with several community organizations, including coaching within the Pownal Minor Hockey Association and the Stratford Minor Ball Association.
Jackie Phelan CPA, CA
Principal
Jackie Phelan has been building her career in the accounting field since 2009, when she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in accounting from the University of New Brunswick. After receiving her Chartered Professional Accountant designation in December 2013, she began focusing on owner-managed businesses, providing both personal and corporate accounting and tax services.
Jackie’s expertise also extends to the farming industry, where she works with island-based businesses. She is well-versed in developing tax planning strategies and guiding corporate reorganizations for her clients. Jackie brings together her professional expertise and personal passions by volunteering with Morell Minor Hockey and serving as the auditor and member of the 100 Women Who Care.
Nick Somers CPA

Nick Somers is a Principal with Fitzpatrick & Company and has been a trusted advisor to owner-managed businesses since joining the firm in 2017. He provides clients with a broad range of advisory, assurance, and taxation services, helping business owners make informed decisions and meet their financial and compliance obligations with confidence.
Nick graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2009 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He successfully completed the Common Final Examination (CFE) to earn his Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in 2019.
With extensive experience preparing review and compilation engagement financial statements, assisting with tax planning strategies, advising on compensation matters, and ensuring clients meet all filing deadlines, Nick brings a practical, solutions focused approach to his work. He has a particular interest in the farming and agricultural sector, drawing on his own farming background and strong understanding of agriculture specific accounting and tax rules.
Nick is passionate about helping clients clearly understand their financial and tax positions while supporting them in achieving their business and long-term financial goals.
