Gerard J. Fitzpatrick, CPA, FCA, TEP

Gerard brings to the table more than forty years of experience in public accounting, specializing in income tax for business and professionals. He has built a great reputation as a leader in the accounting world, in PEI and nationally, with experience in corporate and partnership reorganizations, business succession, tax aspects of sale and purchase of businesses, estate planning, and personal and corporate tax planning. Gerard is actively engaged in general areas of Public Practice, is a frequent presenter and speaker on tax matters to client and contact groups, and is a go-to expert on farm tax matters who has written for and been interviewed by several national publications. Gerard is a current Board Member for the Board of Management – Canada Revenue Agency; past Treasurer of the Prince Edward Island Canadian Cancer Society; past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Prince Edward Island; past Chairperson for the Atlantic School of Chartered Accountancy; and past Board Member for the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Michael D. Fitzpatrick, CPA, CA

A founding partner of Fitzpatrick & Company, Michael received his CA designation in 2004, and in 2013 was awarded The Early Achievement Award for remarkable accomplishments early in his career by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Prince Edward Island (ICAPEI). In 2015, Michael was also recognized by 21 Inc. as an emerging leader in Atlantic Canada. With public accounting experience in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Alberta, Michael has provided professional services to a diverse clientele, which extends beyond the primary industries of agriculture, fishing and forestry to include the manufacturing, tourism, retail and service sectors. His experience includes assisting clients in the buying and selling of businesses – establishing effective financial structures and assisting in negotiations. Michael also provides auditing, accounting, tax planning and compliance, management consulting, and financial advisory services, as well as creating business plans and internal control testing, design and implementation.

Jamie Arsenault, CPA, CA

After receiving his CA designation in 2007, Jamie spent the next few years working in industry before joining the firm and returning to public practice in December 2011. He made Partner in 2015. During his time in industry, Jamie served as the Controller to a number of Crown Corporations inside of the Provincial Government. In his role as Controller, Jamie was responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of internal controls for ten separate entities. Jamie was also involved in the conversion of several government business entities to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). During his time in public practice, Jamie has had the opportunity to work with a variety of small- and medium-sized businesses on assurance, consulting and taxation engagements. Within this work, Jamie has been able to focus his skills within the consulting and taxation services by preparing various business plans, projections, strategic plans, feasibility studies, and succession plans. Jamie is currently serving as the President of Special Olympics of Prince Edward Island.

Rodney Payne, CPA, CGA

Rodney joined the firm in October 2009 as Senior Manager and became Partner in 2015. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree and a Chartered Professional Accountant designation. Rodney has over 20 years’ experience in accounting, mostly in public practice dealing with small- and medium-sized businesses. His work experience includes corporate and personal taxation, as well as assurance engagements. Over the years, Rodney has worked with clients in a wide range of industries, including resource industries, high technology, and retail services clients. In 2008, Rodney completed the Tax & Financial Strategies Course offered by the CGA British Columbia chapter. Rodney has served on several boards and committees; he currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Chartered Professional Accountants of PEI. He has also won several trophies and contests as a public speaker in the Toastmasters International program.


Robert Horne, CPA, CA
Senior Manager

Robert joined the firm in June 2010, receiving his CA designation in 2012. At Fitzpatrick and Company, Robert specializes in providing audit and assurance services for a variety of clients, including owner-managed businesses and not-for-profit organizations, as well as providing his clients with taxation, advisory and due diligence services. Robert is actively involved in the community, currently serving as Treasurer for Special Olympics of Prince Edward Island.

Julie Doyle, CPA

Julie has been working in the accounting industry since 2013 and joined Fitzpatrick & Company in 2015 while completing the Accounting Certificate program from the University of Prince Edward Island, adding to her Bachelor of Business Administration. After obtaining her certificate, Julie joined and successfully completed the CPA Professional Education Program, obtaining the CPA designation in December 2017. Julie was promoted to manager in January 2019 where she provides a variety of services including audit, assurance and taxation services to a wide range of clients. Julie also enjoys working with CPA students, participating in process improvements and volunteering at events including the Special Olympics Festival.

Jason MacLean, CPA, CA

Jason joined Fitzpatrick and Company in 2013, after spending seven years in the IT sector as an Analyst and Java Developer, where he provided services to the healthcare, telecommunication and banking industries. After moving into the accounting profession, Jason passed the Uniform Final Evaluation in 2014 and received his CA designation in 2015. Jason’s primary focus is on providing assurance, taxation and consulting services to wide range of clients, representing all major industries on Prince Edward Island. Jason also enjoys mentoring and preparing students for the Common Final Evaluation (CFE), and was chosen to be a marker for the 2016 CFE, which is the profession’s final exam. Jason is the financial administrator for St. Dunstan’s Basilica Parish and currently sits on the board for the St. Dunstan’s Property and Finance Committee.

Jackie Phelan, CPA, CA

Jackie graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in accounting, and has been working in the accounting industry since 2009. Receiving her Chartered Accountant designation in December 2013, Jackie deals primarily with owner-managed organizations, providing accounting and taxation services for both personal and corporate clients. She has a vast amount of experience within the farming industry, offering her expertise to Island-owned and -operated businesses. Applying her knowledge, Jackie has had extensive experience in preparing tax planning strategies and corporate reorganizations for Island clients. Jackie has also aligned her professional background and personal interests, currently serving as Treasurer of the Prince Edward Island Draft Horse Association, and sitting on the CPA Prince Edward Island Finance and Audit Committee.

Kelly McQuaid

Kelly joined Fitzpatrick & Company in 2009 after spending 10 years in Administrative/Office managing positions that included government, not-for-profit and agricultural sectors.

Originally hired as an Accounting Technician, Kelly transitioned to Office Manager in June of 2011. Since then she continued to expand her role and responsibilities and was promoted to Controller in October of 2017.
